SR "Industrial Safety and Health Month: Spreading Safety Culture through 'Participatory Festival'"

The operator of the Suseo High-Speed Train (SRT), SR, awarded the Best Excellence Prize to the team led by Choi Baek-gyu from the SRT Captain Team in the 'Short-form Video Contest' held to promote a culture of safety. To commemorate the 2024 Paris Olympics, this team produced a video that combined various industrial safety accidents that could occur during work with Olympic sports to raise employees' safety awareness.

On the 20th, SR announced that the Industrial Safety and Health Month festival concluded with the award ceremony of the contest held the previous day, receiving enthusiastic responses from employees, partner companies, and SRT users. This year marked the 57th Industrial Safety and Health Month (held annually in July), which SR transformed into a festival. Under the theme "SafeGo, HealthyGo, EnjoyGo," the "Safety Ssak! ThreeGo Festival" was held, moving away from the traditional one-way safety promotion to various participatory content-centered activities.

First, safety and health volunteer work was carried out in rural areas. On the 2nd of last month, SR employees from the public institution safety council visited Geumsan-gun, Chungnam Province, to install standalone fire detectors in fire-risk houses and inspect fire hazard factors and facilities. An SR health manager with nursing experience measured the blood pressure and blood sugar levels of elderly residents.

A smoking cessation and moderate drinking campaign was also held to promote the health of SRT users, employees, and partner companies. On the 12th of last month, in collaboration with the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center, promotional materials warning about the risks of smoking and excessive drinking were distributed at SRT Suseo Station, and a screening test for alcohol risk types was conducted to raise awareness about smoking and drinking. Additionally, a counseling booth was operated at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center's smoking cessation clinic to prevent diseases such as brain and cardiovascular diseases caused by quitting smoking.

Along with this, the "Safety Golden Bell Quiz Contest" was held face-to-face for the first time this year. On the 15th of last month, 45 participants selected through preliminary rounds by affiliation?including employees, partner companies, and National Railroad Safety Guardians?competed by solving questions in fields such as industrial safety and health, disaster response, and fire safety management to determine the winner. This year's Safety Golden Bell was won by Jeong Da-hye, an SRT cabin crew member.

The "Railroad Accident Prevention Contest," held on the 19th of last month with a total of 10 teams from SR employees and partner companies, also attracted attention. They presented various ideas to raise interest and awareness to prevent human errors and create a culture of safety accident prevention. Following this, a contest for the "Pointing, Confirming, and Shouting" practice, which is habitualized to prevent human errors during work, was held. To prevent railroad accidents, SR has institutionalized the practice of "pointing" at items to be checked with a finger, "confirming" any abnormalities, and shouting the status of the object during all job actions.

The third annual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) contest was held on the 26th of last month with a record participation of 15 teams and 56 members. Aimed at improving emergency treatment skills for cardiac arrest patients, participants acted out cardiac arrest scenarios and response actions, demonstrating CPR that closely resembled real situations. Combining CPR evaluation and simulator device scores, the Gwangju Crew Center team, composed of SRT cabin crew members, won the Best Excellence Prize.

SR has maintained zero railroad accidents for three consecutive years and has continued to receive excellent grades in the railroad safety management level evaluation for four consecutive years. SR CEO Lee Jong-guk said, "A proper safety culture in a company is not built overnight," adding, "I hope this safety culture festival served as an opportunity to reaffirm SR's core value of 'Absolute Safety' and further develop safety awareness."
