Seoul Autonomous District First... Targeting Over 300 People
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 20th that it will implement a policy requiring childcare public officials to work from home once a week starting in September.
This is the first case of expansion to autonomous districts following Seoul City's implementation of a once-a-week work-from-home system for public officials with children under the age of 8 starting this month. Accordingly, about 300 childcare public officials in Dongjak-gu with children under 8 will be required to choose one weekday to work from home.
The district stated that the system was introduced to address the reality that even with the use of legally mandated childcare hours, the time for child care is still insufficient. It also aims to create an organizational culture free from pressure, improving awareness of childcare public officials. In particular, reflecting the demand for activation of work-from-home mainly from dual-income childcare public officials living far away, it is expected to bring a fresh breeze within the district office.
The district said, “During work-from-home days, measures will be taken to ensure no work gaps occur, such as maintaining constant contact via messenger or mobile phone.” However, to ensure stable administrative service delivery, shift and on-site workers, those involved in tasks with high security importance, and those performing field or civil service duties are excluded from the work-from-home program.
Meanwhile, as welfare benefits for childcare public officials, the district has supported ▲ autonomous rest facilities for prenatal educational trips, ▲ purchase expenses for convenience items for pregnant employees (150,000 KRW), ▲ parking fee support for pregnant employees (120,000 KRW per month), and ▲ full allocation of welfare points within a maximum of 3 years during childcare leave.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “There are situations where even using legally guaranteed childcare hours for child care is hesitated,” adding, “We will create a free childcare environment and improve awareness to enhance administrative service efficiency.”
