Daejeon City announced a design competition for the stations of Urban Railway Line 2 (Tram).


The competition will be conducted in two stages. In the first stage, submissions focusing on design concepts and direction for four tram stations will be accepted. In the second stage, detailed designs and basic plans will be required. Additional submissions such as the BI design for the main depot must also be provided.


Participants may include students majoring in design or architecture, industrial design companies, public design firms, and architectural offices. From the 19th to October 25th, applicants can download the guidelines and apply through the 'Daejeon City Public Design Competition Website.'


In the first round of judging, 18 entries will be selected. Of these, 8 will be chosen to advance to the second stage, while the remaining 10 will be recognized as honorable mentions.


The final winning designs will be announced on the website at the end of December after review by a panel of experts. The grand prize winner will receive a certificate and a cash prize of 100 million KRW. The runner-up (one entry) will receive 40 million KRW, two excellence awards will receive 20 million KRW each, two encouragement awards will receive 10 million KRW each, and ten honorable mentions will receive 2 million KRW each.


The winning designs will be applied to 41 side-platform stations and 3 island-platform stations, excluding underground stations, out of the 45 Daejeon tram stations, with construction planned to be completed by 2028.


A city official stated, "Through this design (planning) competition, we aim to create tram stations that reflect the symbolism (characteristics) of Daejeon City and enhance convenience for citizens."
