Until September, Yeongdeungpo-dong Community Center's 'Shared Kitchen' Offers Customized Nutrition Education for Pregnant Women 'Orotsi'
Nutrition Education by Pregnancy Stage to Improve Maternal Nutritional Status and Promote Healthy Fetal Growth and Development
Hands-on Prenatal Cooking Classes Provided... Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports from Pregnancy to Childbirth and Parenting
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate the prenatal nutrition education program "Oroti," which teaches proper dietary habits along with prenatal cooking practice for the healthy childbirth of pregnant women and the growth of fetuses.
The total fertility rate for the first quarter (January to March) of this year was 0.76, the lowest ever recorded for a first quarter. In this era of low birth rates and aging population, the health of pregnant women and fetuses is crucial. A balanced diet during pregnancy is directly linked not only to the health of the pregnant woman but also to the growth and development of the fetus.
The district has prepared the prenatal nutrition education program "Oroti" in collaboration with the dietary education network to provide correct nutrition and dietary information for pregnant women and fetuses. Through systematic dietary education tailored to each stage of pregnancy, the program aims to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women and cultivate their ability to manage proper dietary habits, thereby supporting the healthy growth and development of the fetus. It also seeks to positively influence the formation of future eating habits of children.
The prenatal nutrition education program "Oroti" will be held three times in total until September at the "Shared Kitchen" inside the Yeongdeungpo-dong Community Center.
The main topics include ▲ essential nutrients and dietary habits by pregnancy stage ▲ the first steps in our child's diet ▲ food for mother and baby ▲ methods for consuming essential nutrients for pregnant women. Each class also includes a session where participants make two types of prenatal cooking dishes themselves. These dishes include seasonal vegetable boiled pork wraps, beef five-color roll rice bowls, five-color vegetable shabu-shabu, and chicken Vietnamese spring rolls, all rich in essential nutrients needed for fetal growth. By preparing prenatal dishes without artificial seasonings and using eco-friendly agricultural products, the program helps pregnant women maintain vitality and psychological stability in daily life to ensure healthy childbirth.
Eligible participants are pregnant women registered as residents in the district. Those who wish to participate can apply by visiting or calling the Maternal and Child Health Office at the public health center.
In addition, the district operates various customized postnatal programs to create a healthy childbirth and child-rearing friendly environment, including ▲ Seoul Baby Health First Steps ▲ Maternal and Newborn Health Care ▲ Visiting Happy Breastfeeding, among others.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Yeongdeungpo-gu will be the strongest support for pregnant women so that pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting can be happy,” and added, “We will spare no support for care and education to become a truly ‘child-friendly city Yeongdeungpo.’”
