'Customs Drug Investigation' Police Official Referred for Personal Corruption... Suspended from Position

Sent to Prosecution at the End of March

A police officer affiliated with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul, who investigated the 'Customs Drug Smuggling Involvement Suspicion,' was handed over to the prosecution this year on charges of personal corruption.

'Customs Drug Investigation' Police Official Referred for Personal Corruption... Suspended from Position

On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that Sergeant A of the Yeongdeungpo Police Station was confirmed to have committed personal corruption by intervening in a specific case and was sent to the prosecution at the end of March. He is currently suspended from his position.

Sergeant A led the investigation as the head of the criminal team during the customs drug case. This officer worked under Inspector Baek Haeryong (currently the head of the Hwagok Police Substation at the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul), who exposed allegations of investigative pressure from higher-ups and was also selected as a witness at the National Assembly hearing. However, Sergeant A's personal corruption charges are understood to be unrelated to Inspector Baek or the customs drug case.

The 'Customs Drug Investigation Pressure' case involves allegations that customs officials turned a blind eye to customs procedures while multinational drug syndicate members smuggled large quantities of methamphetamine through Incheon Airport.
