Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate the "2024 Picnic in the Forest with the Fetus" program for pregnant women and their spouses in Geumcheon-gu from 16 to 32 weeks of pregnancy from September to October.
The program was prepared to relieve stress and anxiety caused by the physical and psychological changes of pregnant women, promote emotional bonding with the fetus, and support a healthy childbirth.
Forests emit substances beneficial to the human body such as phytoncides, terpenes, and negative ions. Activities in the forest can promote bonding between pregnant women and their fetuses, helping healthy pregnancy and childbirth.
The district operates the program at the prenatal education center established in Hoamsan Healing Forest, which is easily accessible, to help the mental and physical stability of pregnant women and fetuses and support a healthy pregnancy life.
The program runs 12 times in total, with 4 sessions on weekdays and 8 on weekends, each lasting 2 hours. On weekdays, only pregnant women can participate, while on weekends, couples can participate together.
A professional teaching staff composed of forest prenatal education instructors, forest education experts, forest healing instructors, and forest interpreters conduct prenatal classes on themes such as forest scent prenatal education, forest sound prenatal education, forest color prenatal education, forest craft prenatal education, forest meditation prenatal education, and forest talk prenatal education.
Participants can experience forest walks, forest meditation, forest yoga, and making eco-friendly prenatal products using natural materials.
Detailed education schedules can be found on the Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center website under "News," and pregnant women over 16 weeks who wish to participate can submit an online application to the "Seoul Pregnancy and Childbirth Information Center" by October 19. Selection is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the program is completely free.
In the first half of the year, a total of 18 sessions were held, with 210 pregnant women and their spouses participating in various experiential activities such as forest walks, making fetal product pouches, and making heating packs.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "We have prepared various activities that can be done in the prenatal education center set up in Hoamsan Healing Forest and in nature," adding, "We hope many pregnant women in Geumcheon-gu will participate to find mental and physical stability and help the healthy development of their fetuses."
