12 Sessions from September to November for Gwanak District Residents... First 70 Applicants Accepted Until August 31

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is operating the "16th Citizen Environmental University" in collaboration with Seoul National University to nurture future green leaders who will create a sustainable carbon-neutral society.


The "Citizen Environmental University" started in 2009 and is now in its 16th session this year.


Gwanak-gu has formed a professional teaching staff composed of professors from the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University, providing an easy-to-understand specialized environmental curriculum for residents on topics such as ▲climate crisis ▲natural ecosystems ▲sustainable cities.


In the 16th Citizen Environmental University, education reflecting recent environmental issues will be conducted, including ▲climate change research using artificial intelligence technology ▲current status and solutions for fine dust ▲the role of citizens for carbon neutrality in the era of climate crisis.

In particular, hands-on field training will be conducted where participants can tour the Seoul National University Gwanak Campus to observe natural ecosystems and gain a deeper understanding of nature. Additionally, discussions and practical training sessions exploring ways to achieve carbon neutrality will be organized to enhance participants' environmental sensitivity and further strengthen their capabilities as green leaders.


Participants who complete at least 9 out of the 12 sessions will receive a certificate of completion jointly issued by the Mayor of Gwanak-gu and the Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University.


The education will be held over 12 sessions from September 4 to November 27, every Wednesday from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Seoul National University.


Recruitment is open on a first-come, first-served basis for Gwanak-gu residents until August 31. The number of participants is limited to 70, and the tuition fee is 60,000 KRW.


Residents who wish to enroll can apply online through the Gwanak-gu Office website or visit the Green Environment Division on the 4th floor of the district office to apply.


Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "The Citizen Environmental University is an exemplary model of environmental governance leading a carbon-neutral culture through public-private-academic cooperation," and added, "We hope that a culture of practicing low-carbon living will spread by forming a community consensus centered on future green leaders."
