Underwent stroke surgery in 2019 and has been in recovery care
Alain Delon, a famous French actor known as a representative handsome man, passed away at the age of 88, AFP reported on the 18th (local time), citing an announcement from his children.
The three children stated in a press release that their father Delon died after battling deteriorating health.
The statement said, "Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, and Lubo (Delon's pet dog) are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father," adding, "He peacefully passed away at his home in Deux, surrounded by his three children and family."
Born in France in 1935, Delon made his film debut in 1957 with Yves All?gret's movie When the Woman Approaches, and rose to stardom in 1960 by playing Tom Ripley, a poor young man dreaming of a turnaround in life, in Ren? Cl?ment's film Plein Soleil (The Talented Mr. Ripley).
Nicknamed the "handsome man of the century," he appeared in over 90 films during his more than 50-year career, starring in over 80 of them. Among his representative works, besides Plein Soleil, are The Lonely Sun (1962), Is Paris Burning? (1966), Borsalino (1970), and Zorro (1975).
After suffering a stroke in 2019 and undergoing surgery, he continued to live in care. In 2022, his son Anthony revealed in a French radio interview that Delon had decided to opt for euthanasia if his health were to deteriorate further.
