The Presidential Office stated on the 18th that in response to the joint statement issued by the leaders of South Korea, the United States, and Japan on the first anniversary of the 'Camp David Summit,' they will "expand the scope of cooperation not only in the Indo-Pacific region but also globally, overcoming world challenges together and contributing to the prosperity of the international community."
Kim Tae-hyo, the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, made these remarks during a briefing on the major achievements of South Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation on the first anniversary of Camp David, held in the briefing room of the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, in the afternoon.
Deputy Director Kim said, "Today, the three leaders evaluated the achievements of the past year and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to strengthening future cooperation," adding, "Over the past year, the summit has been held annually, communication among foreign and defense ministers has been regularized, and annual meetings among finance and industry ministers have also been launched."
He explained, "The scope of cooperation, which was previously limited to the security sector, has evolved into a comprehensive cooperation stage encompassing cyber development cooperation and human exchanges," further noting, "In December last year, a real-time sharing system for North Korean missile warning information was activated, and in June, the first multi-domain exercise called 'Freedom Edge' was conducted."
He continued, "Beyond the security sector, active efforts have been made to promote human exchanges," emphasizing, "Economic security dialogues among the three countries have been held twice, and in this era of global security instability, including Ukraine, an early warning system among the three countries' overseas diplomatic missions is being established. This is a trilateral cooperation aimed at stabilizing global supply chains."
Deputy Director Kim assessed, "To realize space security, a letter of intent for quantum cooperation among universities in South Korea, the U.S., and Japan was signed," and added, "With the hosting of the Korea-U.S.-Japan Global Leadership Youth Summit in July this year, exchanges among future generations are also actively taking place."
