"‘Harris is a Crazy Radical’ Trump Finally Launches Personal Attacks"

Despite Opposition Within the Republican Party, "I Will Do It My Way"

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate in the United States, continued personal attacks against Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris despite his campaign aides urging him to "refrain from offensive remarks."

On the 17th (local time), Yonhap News quoted The New York Times (NYT) reporting that "Former President Trump claimed at a rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania that Vice President Harris was behind the scenes orchestrating President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the Democratic candidacy."

At the rally that day, former President Trump continued attacks targeting Vice President Harris's gender and appearance. He referred to an illustration of Harris on the cover of the news magazine Time, saying, "I mistook her for actress Sophia Loren or Elizabeth Taylor." Earlier, Trump had attacked that world leaders on the international stage would see Harris as weak, like a 'toy.'

In particular, former President Trump labeled Vice President Harris as a "crazy person" and a "radical." Trump expressed the view, "I believe I can beat her more easily than him (Biden)." He then launched attacks calling Harris "radical" and "like a lunatic."

Political commentators as well as aides in the Trump campaign had warned that such remarks could cause moderate voters to defect. However, former President Trump ignored this and continued speeches containing personal insults toward Harris.

Local media including the NYT noted that former President Trump focused on personal attacks rather than economic issues. Considering that American voters currently trust former President Trump more on the issue of price stability, logically attacking Vice President Harris's economic policies would be a more effective strategy.

Ultimately, analysts suggest that former President Trump's continued obsession with Vice President Harris's gender and race is due to the Democratic Party's recent swift efforts to court female voters. According to a New York Times-Siena College poll (conducted from the 8th to the 15th), in battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, Vice President Harris leads former President Trump by 14 percentage points among 'female voters.'

The NYT evaluated, "Vice President Harris has successfully unified some parts of the Democratic base who hesitated to support President Biden for months, especially young voters, non-white voters, and female voters."

Meanwhile, the Harris campaign rebutted in a statement, "Trump repeats the same lie show every time he campaigns." The Harris campaign claimed, "Trump tries to prevent voters from paying attention to his dangerous intentions by using lies, offensive remarks, and slogans that distort facts."
