Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 18th that it will conduct a focused cleanup of illegal advertisements around the school routes of about 100 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools from August 19 to September 27 to create a safe commuting environment for the new school term.

The cleanup areas include major roads near kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools within the district. The district will deploy special cleanup teams from the district office and local community centers to crack down on harmful illegal advertisements targeting youth. Safety inspections and maintenance of old signs that pose pedestrian safety concerns and signs at risk of damage or falling will also be conducted simultaneously.

Additionally, the district will carry out a "Removing Traces of Illegal Advertisements" project by next month to eliminate leftover banner strings and tape residues on utility poles along major roads.

If the strings and tape used to secure banners are not completely removed during dismantling and remain on street trees or utility poles, they not only spoil the urban landscape but also act as potential hazards that can cause safety accidents by hanging over the roadside.

The district has been conducting this project annually, cleaning up leftover illegal advertisement materials on about 5,500 street trees and utility poles around major intersections, alleys, and school routes. In the second half of this year, it plans to remove a total of 500 items, including 200 banner strings and 300 tape residues, targeting major intersections and main roads.

Furthermore, the district plans to install 300 to 500 anti-attachment devices on streetlights and communication poles to prevent illegal advertisements from being posted in advance.

District Mayor Lee Gi-jae stated, "We will do our best to create a clean urban landscape and a safe street environment through continuous crackdowns on illegal advertisements and the expansion of preventive facilities."
