At the final joint speech event of the Democratic Party's regional primary tour in Seoul, candidate Lee Daemyung emphasized unity, saying, "We are all family members within the big vessel of the Democratic Party."
At the joint speech held on the 17th at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, Lee said, "No matter how big the differences among us are, can they be as big as the gap we need to overcome against our opponents?" and added, "We don't have time to fight and conflict over small differences when we need to unite our strength."
Lee continued his criticism of the current government's policy direction in his speech that day.
He said, "Politics should be concerned about the lives of the people, but instead, the people are worried about politics and the country," adding, "It's hard to make a living, safety is a concern, and people worry about sudden accidents causing untimely deaths." He continued, "We worry whether our children who went to the military might face harm if war breaks out," and questioned, "Is there really hope that the future of this country will be better tomorrow than today?"
Lee said, "In the meantime, don't people worry about being wiretapped or monitored, that their communication records are being checked, and that one day the police might come to arrest them based on their text messages?" He asked, "Is this country normal right now?"
He emphasized, "Solving these difficulties in people's livelihoods, economic hardships, and insecurities in diplomacy and security, and creating a world where people can live with peace of mind?that is exactly what politics should do."
Lee stressed that hope for change lies within the Democratic Party. He said, "We must surely overcome this bleak reality and create a world where tomorrow is believed to be better than today," and emphasized, "We must be the hope of the people. We must be responsible for the future of the people of the Republic of Korea."
