Education Conducted at Two Elderly Welfare Facilities on August 16 and 23
Promoting Infection Prevention Practices with 'Infection Prevention ABCs in Daily Life' and Handwashing Exercises
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that on the 16th and 23rd, infection prevention education and handwashing practice sessions will be conducted for the elderly at senior welfare facilities.
Senior welfare facilities are mainly used by elderly people with weakened immune systems, making the risk of infection spread very high if an infectious disease occurs. The district has prepared this education to promote infection prevention and management through the habitual practice of handwashing.
On the 16th, the sessions will be held on the 2nd floor of the Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center, and on the 23rd, on the 4th floor of the Cheongdam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., including both theoretical and practical training.
During the theoretical education, participants will watch videos covering types of infectious diseases, proper cough etiquette, mask-wearing methods, and indoor ventilation techniques, followed by explanations based on the 'Infection Prevention ABC in Daily Life' brochure.
In the handwashing practice session, participants will use fluorescent lotion and a fluorescent flashlight to visually identify areas of the hands that are not washed well, follow the six correct steps of handwashing, and learn to practice and habituate handwashing in daily life.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “Since 70% of infectious diseases are transmitted through hands, proper handwashing is the most basic health rule for infection prevention and the easiest and most effective method to prevent infectious diseases. We will strive to help elderly people with weakened immunity develop healthy habits through proper handwashing education to prevent infectious diseases during the summer.”
In addition to senior welfare facilities, the district plans to provide education for workers and users of nursing institutions and rehabilitation hospitals, which are vulnerable to infections. Customized infection prevention and management training, consisting of theory and practice, will be conducted by facility to strengthen the capacity to respond to group infections.
