Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon posted a message and photo on his SNS on the 15th to commemorate Liberation Day.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon emphasized on August 15, Liberation Day, that "society is divided and even Liberation Day has been split into two," urging that "conflict and division must end."
On that day, Governor Kim posted on his social media, saying, "The 79th anniversary of liberation is a meaningful day," and lamented, "It is a day of celebration when we should all rejoice in Korea's independence, but society is divided, and ultimately, Liberation Day itself has been split into two."
He added, "The government's perception of reality remains regrettable and lamentable," and questioned, "At today's half-hearted ceremony, the president said, 'We must achieve greater historical progress.' How can that be possible with distorted historical awareness, division, and conflict?"
Furthermore, he introduced, "Fortunately, many liberation members joined Gyeonggi Province's Liberation Day," and noted, "It was even more meaningful with a special performance reenacting the Hwaseong Jeam-ri and Gojuri massacre incidents."
In particular, he promised, "National unity is the only way for the country to survive," and stated, "We must end conflict and division and move forward vigorously as a united Republic of Korea. Gyeonggi Province will take the lead."
