On the night before Liberation Day, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 15th that a special crackdown on reckless driving and street racing on Liberation Day resulted in the detection of 44 cases of illegal vehicle tuning and a total of 164 offenders including drunk drivers, unlicensed drivers, and other traffic law violators.


The police conducted the special crackdown from 8 PM the previous day until 5 AM on Liberation Day, deploying 396 traffic officers and 201 patrol cars and motorcycles to 138 locations, including the Hangang Jamsugyo Bridge and Bukak Skyway, where street racers were expected to appear.


No drivers were caught for street racing or reckless driving. The police agency stated that consistent and strict enforcement had a positive impact.


A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said, "We plan to continue enforcement activities against illegal acts on the roads to ensure the peaceful daily lives of citizens."
