Into the Festival of Cool Melodies Echoing on a Midsummer Day
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jo Hee-yeon), hosted by the office and commissioned to be operated by the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Kookmin University (President Jung Seung-ryeol), announced that the 1st Seoul Creative Arts Education Center successfully held the "2024 Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Concert" on the 6th and 7th at Citizen's Hall (B1) inside Seoul City Hall from 4 PM to 5 PM, featuring 64 members of the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra.
This 2024 Summer Concert was composed of pieces that convey the message of learning and growing through coexistence with music by the members of the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra, allowing all audience members to enjoy. They performed a total of four pieces, including the overture from the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila (M. Glinka - 'Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture'). Notably, the performance took place not in a typical concert hall but on the 'Hwaljjag Lounge' stage within Citizen's Hall at Seoul City Hall, providing citizens with an opportunity to enjoy art in their daily lives and opening a space for free communication.
To prepare for this performance, the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra held the "2024 Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Music Camp" on the 2nd and 3rd at Kookmin University Concert Hall and the Arts Center. Starting with an open rehearsal with parents, the program included a 'Master Class' with music masters and current university professors for each section, and an advanced 'Summer Music Camp' program for the summer concert, enhancing individual skills and learning consideration and cooperation through music. Additionally, this year, a special autonomous training session was held for orchestra managers and interested teachers within Seoul city schools, together with Kim Ye-hoon, the permanent conductor of the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra, providing an opportunity to gain ideas for school arts education operation from professional artists.
Founded in 2016, the Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra selects its members through auditions from applicants among elementary, middle, and high school students within Seoul. In 2024, under the slogan "Together Again Through Music," it is growing as the representative student orchestra of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. The Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra is operated by the 1st Seoul Creative Arts Education Center (Eunpyeong) and holds regular sectional and ensemble rehearsals every Saturday.
On December 19, the "9th Seoul Student Philharmonic Orchestra Regular Concert," where the students can showcase the performance skills they have built throughout the year, is scheduled to be held at the Seoul Arts Center. In late December, recruitment for new members for 2025 will take place.
Further details will be available later on the website of the 1st Seoul Creative Arts Education Center.
