Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold the 21st Energy Day event, the ‘Climate 1.5 Degree Film Festival,’ on the 22nd at the district office auditorium.
The ‘Climate 1.5 Degree Film Festival’ was organized to raise awareness of environmental protection by vividly conveying the seriousness of the climate crisis through visual media. The name was inspired by the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement’s goal to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5℃.
This year, the film '1℃ Future' will be screened. It is one of the three-part KBS documentary series on glaciers, depicting the ecological crisis caused by global warming. The film shows how scientists worldwide investigate the endangered glaciers and seek solutions. The screening lasts about 50 minutes and is suitable for all ages.
Before the film screening, a ‘Unplugging’ performance will take place to express commitment to energy saving. Additionally, attendees can experience making cotton candy and popcorn using self-generated power. After the screening, a raffle event offering eco-friendly products will follow.
Applications can be made through the Gwangjin-gu Office website or on-site on the day of the event. The event plans to recruit 200 participants on a first-come, first-served basis for interested residents. For more details, inquiries can be directed to the district office’s Environment Division.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We prepared the film festival with an environmental theme so that people can feel the importance of energy saving firsthand,” adding, “We hope many residents will take an interest in climate issues and use this as an opportunity to practice green living.”
