Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, "I have not yet decided to run for president," but he estimated his chances of running at "51%." As an immediate task, he pointed to the re-bid for the 2036 Seoul Olympics, expressing confidence that "if successful, it will be a 'profitable Olympics.'"
In a YTN radio interview on the 14th, Mayor Oh said regarding the next presidential election, "I have been asked this question many times even before reaching the halfway point of my term. Until now, I said the possibility was about fifty-fifty, but last month marked the halfway point of my term," he said.
He also commented on the 'presidential candidate possibility' of Lee Jae-myung, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Mayor Oh said, "I don't think it's very high. He is facing trial for a serious crime, and sentencing will begin in October," pointing out the judicial risks.
He also expressed his determination to re-bid for the 2036 Seoul Olympics. He said, "I will do my best," adding, "I had quite a deep conversation with IOC President Bach, who said he will not seek another term, so we need to persuade the new leadership. It has been shared with IOC members that Seoul is in a very favorable position," and "Usually, other countries host again after 50 years, but 2036 will mark the 48th year."
On this day, Mayor Oh introduced major Seoul city policies such as Mirinae House, the ‘Wrist Doctor 9988’ health app, and the ‘Climate Companion Card,’ which have received great responses from citizens. Regarding the plan to create a national symbol space at Gwanghwamun Square, he said he would announce his position soon.
He emphasized, "The public really dislikes politics," and said, "Politics must change to one of unity and harmony." He added, "I have emphasized walking together with the vulnerable. I hope that sincerity is well conveyed."
