Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) announced that on the 12th, it produced and distributed a manual for the prevention and handling of workplace harassment to improve its internal organizational culture.

Workplace harassment refers to acts in which an employer or employee uses their position or relationship at work to exert undue influence beyond the appropriate scope of work, causing physical or psychological distress to another employee or deteriorating the work environment.

Since the legal institutionalization of workplace harassment under the Labor Standards Act in 2019, the number of reported cases in Korea has continued to rise, surpassing 10,000 in 2023. The number of industrial accident victims related to workplace harassment has also shown a continuous upward trend.

In response to this situation, BMC has created the "Workplace Harassment Prevention and Handling Manual," which includes the concept of workplace harassment, criteria for determining whether an act constitutes harassment, measures to be taken in the event of harassment, and support strategies for victims, in order to proactively prevent workplace harassment and raise awareness.

In particular, the manual aims to foster a culture of mutual respect and create a workplace environment where all members can be happy and grow together, through learning about cases related to the criteria for determining workplace harassment.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "As reports of workplace harassment are increasing nationwide due to generational differences in perception, I hope all members will be more vigilant and devoted to preventing these issues," adding, "The corporation will continue to do its utmost to promote a sound organizational culture."
