Saebangjuk Bangjoje~Gubongdo~Daebudo Tourist Information Center
Section length 15.4 km...Estimated time 5 hours 10 minutes
The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Ansan Course 51’ stretches from Saebangjuk Bangjoje to Gubongdo, Daebudo Bangameori Meokgeoritown, and continues to the Daebudo Tourist Information Center. The section is 15.4 km long, with an estimated duration of 5 hours and 10 minutes. The difficulty level is classified as ‘medium.’
The starting stamp provided at Saebangjuk Bangjoje features a drawing of the Gubongdo Sunset Observatory. The Gubongdo Sunset Observatory, located north of Bangameori in Daebudo, is a scenic spot where the sunset viewed between Halmae Rock and Halbae Rock next to the observatory is breathtaking.
The newly created path along the west coast of Daebudo is shared by pedestrians, bicycles, and cars. After walking about 4 km on this path and passing through the mudflats, you leave the coastal road and encounter the mountain trail of Donji Island. Donji Island is a small island shaped like a bird’s nest; it was originally called Dungji Island but the name changed over time to Donji Island. At the summit observatory of Donji Island, there is a resting area, making it a good spot to take a break.
Descending the mountain trail and following the coastline toward the Ant Waist Arch Bridge, you can see a pair of rocks facing each other. One is called Halmae Rock, and the other is Halbae Rock. Legend has it that there was a loving grandmother and grandfather, but one day the grandfather went fishing and did not return. The grandmother, exhausted from waiting, turned into stone. Years later, the grandfather returned, and upon hearing the news, he also turned into stone out of compassion for the grandmother. This story has been passed down through generations.
Walking while enjoying the open sea view, you arrive at the Ant Waist Arch Bridge. The bridge is named for its slender shape resembling an ant’s waist. Passing this point, you reach the Gubongdo Sunset Observatory. The Gubongdo sunset is considered one of the nine scenic views of Ansan and is renowned for its beauty. Sunset photos taken through the sculpture titled ‘Embracing the Sunset’ are popular.
Following the Gubongdo trail past the salt farm area, you ascend Bukmangsan Mountain. From the summit, you can sometimes see people paragliding. After enjoying the scenery, descend the mountain trail and pass Bangameori Beach to reach the Daebudo Tourist Information Center. The arrival stamp at the Daebudo Tourist Information Center features a drawing of the Gyeonggi Marine Safety Experience Center building. This center was established to prevent a recurrence of the Sewol ferry disaster and serves as a comprehensive marine safety experience facility. It helps students develop the skills to survive disasters on their own through experiences such as ship escape drills, rip current simulations, and survival swimming.
