KGC Insamgongsa Urgently Purchases Ginseng to Support Farms Affected by Heavy Rainfall

Early This Month Focused on Gangwon and Chungcheong Regions Including Cheorwon and Boeun

KGC Ginseng Corporation announced on the 14th that it expedited the ginseng purchasing period and conducted an emergency purchase earlier this month to support contract farming households affected by heavy rain damage.

When ginseng fields are flooded due to concentrated heavy rain, there is a possibility that the ginseng may rot from underground, which can deteriorate its marketability. The company explained that since significant damage to farmers is expected in such cases, they decided to take swift action.

KGC Ginseng Corporation conducted emergency purchases mainly in Gangwon regions such as Cheorwon (759.5mm) and Chungcheong regions such as Boeun (513.8mm), which suffered damage to ginseng fields due to concentrated heavy rain during the monsoon season.

From the 22nd to the 24th of last month, ginseng samples were collected, and from the 25th to the 2nd of this month, over 430 types of safety inspections were conducted. After passing these inspections, harvesting was carried out on the 5th and 6th, and the emergency purchase was completed by the 7th.

KGC Ginseng Corporation plans to operate a disaster response process until the ginseng purchasing is completed, monitoring the damage situation and implementing step-by-step responses. In particular, if additional damage occurs to farmers due to ongoing heatwaves following the monsoon, early purchases will also be conducted by the end of August.

A KGC Ginseng Corporation official said, "We sincerely regret that ginseng, which has been carefully cultivated for 6 to 8 years, was damaged by the heavy rain. We believe that coexistence with farmers is of utmost importance, and we plan to continue practicing coexistence management going forward."
