Multi-Foldable Folding Twice Inside and Out Emerges... Samsung and LGD Showcase New Technology

K-Display Exhibition Opens
Samsung D Surprises with OLEDOS, Key to Realizing Extended Reality
LGD Introduces Ultra-Large Vehicle Display Solution

Samsung Display and LG Display will attend the 'K-Display 2024 Korea Display Industry Exhibition' (hereinafter 'K-Display 2024'), held at COEX in Seoul until the 16th, unveiling various display technologies and conducting experiential exhibition programs.

On the 14th, according to each company, Samsung Display will hold an exhibition under the theme 'Journey into AI: OLED Leaps.'

Samsung Display will demonstrate AI interfaces utilizing the unique expandability and variability of foldable displays across various multi-foldable OLEDs, including the flip-type foldable 'Flex In&Out' that can fold 360 degrees, the 'Flex S' that folds twice inward and outward, and the 'Flex Hybrid' which combines foldable and slidable technologies.

At the 'Round Lab,' a future research concept, Samsung Display will introduce various concept products applying the world's first circular OLED, offering a glimpse into a future lifestyle where electronic devices connected by AI technology exchange information anytime and anywhere.

Notably, for the first time in Korea, OLED concept products such as a smart key and smart headphones equipped with a 1.5-inch circular OLED, a smart watch cling band with a 6.2-inch flexible OLED, and a smart speaker with a 7.6-inch flexible OLED will be unveiled to the public.

They will also showcase the new OLEDOS technology, a core technology for XR headsets. Unlike the previously revealed RGB OLEDOS, the white OLEDOS (W-OLED) achieves an ultra-high brightness of 12,000 nits in a 1.3-inch ultra-small size for the first time in the industry. The pixel density is 4000 ppi, packing the resolution of a 4K TV into a coin-sized ultra-small screen.

A gaming zone displaying the gaming display lineup at a glance has also been set up. Along with popular portable gaming devices like the Steam Deck, 49-, 34-, and 27-inch gaming monitors, and a 15.6-inch laptop certified with Clear MR will be exhibited. In collaboration with Krafton, visitors will have the opportunity to directly experience 'Battlegrounds.'

They have also prepared a foldable panel durability test demonstration. The 'OLED Bot,' used in OLED production lines, will place a 7.6-inch foldable panel into a water-filled tank, shake it, sprinkle salt and pepper, scrub it with a steel scouring pad, and pour dozens of steel balls onto the panel simultaneously, showcasing the strong durability of Samsung foldables to visitors.

LG Display will present new OLED technologies that provide differentiated customer value with proprietary technologies optimized for large OLEDs such as TVs and gaming, and ultra-large vehicle display solutions optimized for SDV (Software-Defined Vehicles) under the theme 'A Better Future' at this exhibition.

The '83-inch OLED TV panel' applies LG Display's new technology 'META Technology 2.0,' developed by consolidating 10 years of OLED expertise, improving luminance (screen brightness), a key element of image quality, by about 42% compared to existing models, achieving the brightest maximum luminance of 3,000 nits among current OLED TV panels. It features 42.4 billion (based on 77 inches) ultra-fine lens patterns 'MLA+' combined with proprietary algorithms 'Meta Multi Booster' and 'Detail Enhancer,' vividly and three-dimensionally expressing rich, natural colors and brightness as seen by the human eye.

The gaming OLED lineup gathers full models of 27, 31.5, 34, 39, and 45 inches in one place. Applying 'META Technology 2.0' enhances image quality completeness, offering the fastest response time (0.03ms) and high refresh rates among existing panels, minimizing 'screen bleed' where surrounding objects reflect on dark scenes, providing an optimal gaming experience.

For vehicle displays, LG Display will unveil ultra-large solutions optimized for SDV based on differentiated technologies such as OLED and LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) LCD.

'ATO (Advanced Thin OLED)' is a product that simultaneously realizes sleek design, ultra-high definition, and reasonable pricing with a thickness 20% thinner than conventional glass substrate OLEDs. The '17-inch ATO' for information display maximizes driving convenience by allowing immediate recognition of various information on a large screen while easily controlling vehicle functions.

The 'ultra-large pillar-to-pillar LTPS LCD' applies 'SPM (Switchable Privacy Mode),' a technology that prevents the front passenger screen from being visible to the driver when necessary, enhancing driving safety. The '57-inch pillar-to-pillar LCD' features a natural curved screen for viewing infotainment functions at a glance and is equipped with a proprietary high-sensitivity 'In-Cell' touch function, providing excellent touch responsiveness. The '18-inch slidable OLED for vehicles' is usually hidden rolled up in the rear seat ceiling and unfolds downward when the user desires, allowing large-screen movie watching, news viewing, and video conferencing inside the vehicle.

High-end IT LCD panels will also be introduced. The '27-inch IPS Black' for monitors, applying IPS (wide viewing angle) technology, offers a wide viewing angle and excellent color expression, while the '16-inch IPS for gaming laptops' features a 240Hz ultra-high refresh rate and low power consumption.
