Geumcheon-gu, Recruiting Cast for King Jeongjo's Royal Procession

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will recruit residents to play major roles in the "7th King Jeongjo Royal Procession Reenactment" until the 27th.

The King Jeongjo Royal Procession Reenactment is an event collaboratively recreated by Seoul, Suwon City, and Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, reenacting the grand procession King Jeongjo held in the year of Eulmyo (1795) to celebrate his mother Lady Hyegyeonggung Hong’s 60th birthday and to visit the tomb of his father Crown Prince Sado.

The procession will begin on October 6 at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul and proceed along a 57 km route passing through Siheung Haenggung in Geumcheon-gu to the Yungneung and Geonneung tombs in Hwaseong. Siheung Haenggung is where King Jeongjo stayed overnight during the procession.

For the Seoul section of the procession, specifically the Gangnam area (from Geumcheon-gu Office Intersection to Siheung 5-dong Community Center), residents of Geumcheon-gu aged 19 and older have participated since 2022. They will take on four roles including King Jeongjo and Lady Hyegyeonggung Hong to promote the historical value of Siheung Haenggung and enjoy the procession with local residents.

The roles to be recruited are one person each for King Jeongjo (male in his 30s), Lady Hyegyeonggung Hong (female in her 50s), Cheongyeon Gunju (female in her 20s), and Cheongseon Gunju (female in her 20s). This year, Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon is expected to join as the Siheung Hyeollyeong (local magistrate) role.

Residents wishing to participate can download the application form from the ‘Notices/Announcements’ section on the Geumcheon-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it via email by 6 p.m. on the 27th.

The final cast will be selected through an interview (audition), and the performers will act in the Geumcheon-gu section of the procession as well as in the "Proclamation of King Jeongjo’s Edict."

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “This event reenacting King Jeongjo’s royal procession is more than a simple historical reenactment; it is a precious time to reflect on King Jeongjo’s achievements imbued with communication and the spirit of caring for the people, embracing both the present and the future. We will make thorough preparations so that it can be an opportunity to experience local history and culture up close.”
