On the 13th (local time), the United Auto Workers (UAW) filed a complaint with the U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against former President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk for unfair labor practices. This was due to statements made during a conversation that threatened and intimidated workers.
According to major foreign media including the Associated Press on the same day, former President Trump praised CEO Musk as the "best expert in firing" during an online conversation with Musk broadcasted the previous day on X (formerly Twitter).
Former President Trump continued, "You (CEO Musk) go in and ask, 'Do you want to quit?' I won’t mention the company name, but if they go on strike, you say, 'It's okay. You are all fired.'"
CEO Musk did not respond to Trump's remarks but showed a smiling expression.
U.S. federal labor law protects the right to strike, making it illegal to fire workers because of a strike.
UAW President Shawn Fain condemned, saying in a statement, "Both Trump and Musk want workers to sit quietly and keep their mouths shut, and they openly mock that. This is disgusting and illegal, but it was a predictable behavior from these two clowns."
Brian Hughes, senior advisor to Trump's election campaign, described UAW's claims as a shameless political tactic aimed at weakening former President Trump's support among American workers.
Earlier, the UAW expressed support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate.
