On the 14th, Gangdong-gu, Seoul announced that it will create priority parking spaces for national merit recipients in public parking lots within the district to enhance convenience and strengthen everyday respect for them.

To promote the project of 'Installing Priority Parking Spaces for National Merit Recipients,' the district revised the 'Seoul Gangdong-gu Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance' on the 10th of last month, establishing the legal basis and standards for installation.

According to the ordinance, priority parking spaces for national merit recipients can be used by individuals recognized as national merit recipients under relevant laws, such as independence activists, persons eligible for veterans' compensation, and war veterans.

When parking in these spaces, the driver or passenger must carry an identification card or certificate issued by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. If it is confirmed that a vehicle parked in these spaces does not have a national merit recipient on board, the district may recommend moving the vehicle to another location.

Additionally, the ordinance stipulates that parking lots with a capacity of 50 or more vehicles are subject to the installation of priority parking spaces for national merit recipients, with at least one space to be created. The location of these priority parking spaces is also regulated to ensure accessibility and mobility, such as being near parking lot entrances or elevators for the convenience of users.

Accordingly, the district has promoted the installation of priority parking spaces for national merit recipients in public parking lots within the district, creating 8 spaces in 8 public parking lots earlier this month.

Kim Jeom-hee, head of the Parking Administration Division of Gangdong-gu, stated, “Through the creation of priority parking spaces for national merit recipients, we will strive to foster a social atmosphere of respect for national merit recipients and to enhance their pride and honor.”
