Google Play and the Korea Webtoon Industry Association announced on the 13th that they have signed a global partnership with the local webtoon platform DashToon in Bengaluru, India.
Through this agreement, global users will be able to access Korean webtoon content, which is gaining worldwide attention, more easily via DashToon. This was achieved as part of a mid- to long-term cooperation plan established last September between the Korea Webtoon Industry Association and Google Play to promote the global expansion of Korean webtoons and revitalize the webtoon industry.
DashToon, a global webtoon platform, has gained popularity in India, having been selected in 2023 as the "Best for Fun" app in the "Webtoons & Comics" category at the Google Play Best of 2023 awards. It also offers a service that allows story writers to convert their stories into webtoons using generative artificial intelligence (AI), making it easy for users to enjoy them.
Seobeomgang, Chairman of the Korea Webtoon Industry Association, said, "Through this partnership, we have taken a step closer to global users, and we are pleased to introduce excellent Korean webtoons to the Indian market, which has high growth potential."
In addition to this partnership, Google Play and the Korea Webtoon Industry Association are promoting various programs to strengthen the global competitiveness of domestic small and medium-sized webtoon companies and creators, including global expansion seminars, strategies for activating genre diversity within the webtoon industry, and consulting on discovering new IPs. Various collaborations are planned to coincide with the "2nd Webtoon Industry Day" on October 28.
