BTS Suga Drunk Driving, Fallout on Other K-pop Idols
Post Content Edited Due to Some Malicious Comments
BTS member Suga (real name Min Yoongi) has caused controversy due to drunk driving on an electric scooter, and some K-pop fans, presumed to be from BTS's fandom 'ARMY,' have indiscriminately attacked other K-pop idols with malicious comments, sparking further controversy. A representative figure is Seungkwan (real name Boo Seungkwan) from the group Seventeen. On the 12th, Seungkwan posted a photo on his Instagram smiling with a beer from the brand he currently models for held to his mouth.

Along with the photo, he wrote a drinking warning: "Warning: Excessive drinking causes stroke, memory loss, or dementia. Drinking during pregnancy increases the risk of birth defects," followed by "Everything in moderation." This is because alcohol advertisements or promotional materials featuring drinking scenes on social media must include a drinking warning. Since Seungkwan's post involved alcohol, it appears he included the warning accordingly.
However, the post was flooded with malicious comments from overseas K-pop fans presumed to be Suga's supporters. In particular, there was speculation that the beer Seungkwan was holding was a 'Zero Sugar' product, suggesting it was a jab at Suga. The comment section was filled with insults and harsh criticism toward Seungkwan, including remarks like "disgusting" and "loser." As the post became controversial, Seungkwan eventually edited the caption to say, "Is everyone enjoying the Olympics together? Fighting for the Korean athletes until the end! Let's make a cheering video for our Korean athletes." Currently, many comments defending Seungkwan are also appearing.
Earlier, on the 6th, BTS's Suga was found fallen while riding an electric scooter near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu. Subsequent breathalyzer tests revealed that Suga's blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%. A BAC of 0.227% far exceeds the license cancellation threshold (0.08%). Since Suga is currently serving as a social service worker, his drunk driving incident caused even greater controversy. However, the Military Manpower Administration explained that since the accident occurred outside of his working hours, no separate measures would be taken. The police plan to summon Suga for investigation, but as he is serving as a social service worker, they are coordinating schedules with his agency and others.
