"Construction Already Started..." Indongseon and Gyeonggang Line Double-Track Railway Project 'No Issues'

The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 13th that the construction projects for the Indeogwon~Dongtan double-track railway (Indong Line) and the Wolgot~Pangyo double-track railway (Gyeonggang Line) are currently progressing normally.

These projects have already commenced and are proceeding without any issues.

The Indong Line (38.3 km) is a project to expand metropolitan transportation functions in the southwestern Seoul metropolitan area by 2028, with a total budget of 4.0775 trillion KRW. The Rail Network Authority signed contracts for specific sections in 2021 and last year and has started construction.

The Gyeonggang Line (34.2 km) is a double-track railway project with a total budget of 2.9447 trillion KRW to be completed by 2027. Some contracts for additional construction work were signed and construction commenced last year.

However, on the same day (the 13th), Uiwang City held a 'Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Indong Line and Gyeonggang Line sections.'

Regarding this, the Rail Network Authority emphasized, "The Indong Line and Gyeonggang Line projects were already started three years ago and are currently progressing normally. Nevertheless, Uiwang City holding a groundbreaking ceremony may cause unnecessary misunderstandings and confusion (such as project delays) among the general public and Uiwang citizens. Therefore, on the 6th, we officially requested Uiwang City to refrain from using the term 'groundbreaking' in the event name."

They added, "The Rail Network Authority will continue to cooperate with Uiwang City to do its best to ensure that the Indong Line and Gyeonggang Line projects open on schedule."
