Incheon City and Gangwon Province Collaborate to Foster Advanced Bio and Semiconductor Industries

Incheon City and Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province are joining forces to focus on fostering advanced industries such as bio and semiconductors.

On the 13th, Mayor Yoo Jung-bok of Incheon and Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon signed a "Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Advanced Industries" at Incheon City Hall.

According to the agreement, these local governments plan to lead the establishment of the tentative "Korea Bio Advanced Industry Belt." They will also collaborate to create a national bio advanced strategic industry specialized complex, support bio research and development and open innovation among companies, and work to resolve industrial regulations.

In the semiconductor sector, they will focus on nurturing specialized personnel and building and jointly utilizing infrastructure to create an industrial ecosystem. Additionally, they plan to support the establishment of a regional semiconductor company and institution network and the development of cooperative projects.

Earlier, in March, Incheon City and Gangwon Province signed a friendly exchange agreement covering four areas, including advanced industry-linked cooperation and joint response to the development of border areas, to lead domestic advanced industries and jointly respond to the crisis of regional extinction. This detailed agreement concretizes the practical cooperation tasks in the advanced industry sector between the two institutions.

Following their respective designations in June for the national bio advanced strategic industry specialized complex contest, last month Inha University and Kangwon National University were jointly selected for the semiconductor specialized university support project, expanding exchanges and cooperation in the bio and semiconductor fields.

Before the signing ceremony, Governor Kim held a special lecture titled "Future Together with Incheon and Gangwon" for about 200 Incheon public officials, introducing Gangwon Province's major policy directions and vision.

Mayor Yoo said, "I hope that through this agreement, Incheon City and Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province will work together and coexist in regional development across various fields."
