Delivery Platform-Merchant Win-Win Council Holds 2nd Meeting
Measures to alleviate the commission burden on tenant businesses through the activation of public delivery apps are being actively discussed. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that the 2nd meeting of the 'Delivery Platform-Tenant Business Win-Win Council' was held on the 13th.
At this 2nd meeting, the topics for future discussions were specified. Public interest committee members, including Chairman Lee Jeong-hee, proposed discussion topics such as ▲alleviating burdens like commissions ▲enhancing transparency ▲improving unfair practices ▲establishing a sustainable communication system. The delivery platforms and tenant businesses presented their respective positions on these matters. Regarding the final derivation of win-win measures, all members of the council, including stakeholders, agreed to prioritize preparing a plan that all can consent to.
Plans to activate public delivery apps, which apply low commission rates, were also discussed. In fact, the order mediation commission rate of public delivery apps is set at a very low level of 0~2%, compared to the commission rates of private delivery platforms. Representing public delivery apps, 'Ttaenggyeoyo (Shinhan Bank)' attended the meeting and presented win-win support measures including the activation of public delivery apps.
Ttaenggyeoyo stated that activating public delivery apps could alleviate the commission burden on tenant businesses and contribute to the long-term stabilization of the delivery platform market. They requested that various support measures for public delivery apps be devised, including ways to attract consumers to public delivery apps. They also requested the expansion of institutional measures to enhance commission transparency, such as mandating the disclosure of delivery platform commissions. In response, Chairman Lee Jeong-hee proposed that the council discuss activation plans for public delivery apps, including Ttaenggyeoyo’s suggestions, in future meetings.
The win-win council is scheduled to be held biweekly going forward. At the next 3rd meeting, a full exchange of opinions between delivery platforms and tenant businesses will be conducted on the discussion topics selected this day. The government plans to actively support the process to ensure meaningful results can be achieved by October.
