13.6 Tons of Uljubae Exported, Worth 68 Million Won
On the 13th, Ulju County in Ulsan held a farewell ceremony for the first export of the local specialty "Ulsan Ulju Pear" to the United States at the Ulsan Horticultural Cooperative Yulli Branch in Yulli, Cheongnyang-eup.
The event was attended by Ulju County Governor Lee Sungul, County Council Chairman Choi Gilyoung, the head of the Ulsan Horticultural Cooperative, representatives of the producing farms, and others to wish for successful exports.
The Ulju pears being exported this time are of the Wonhwang variety, totaling 13.6 tons and valued at 68 million KRW. By December, a total of 470 tons worth 2.35 billion KRW are planned to be exported via sea transport.
Last year, due to abnormal low temperatures, the fruit set rate for pears was somewhat low and production decreased. However, this year, pear production is expected to increase by more than 25% compared to the previous year, leading to a projected rise in export volume.
Governor Lee Sungul stated, "Through the export of Ulsan Ulju Pears, we will promote the excellence of our local specialties overseas and contribute to stabilizing domestic pear prices," adding, "Despite challenging conditions, we will continue to seek various support measures to enhance the pride and income of farmers who have preserved Ulsan's specialties."
