First Among 43 Public Libraries in Chungnam to Meet Registration Requirements
Chungnam Asan City Central Library has become the first in the Chungnam region to be officially registered following the implementation of the public library registration system.
According to the city on the 13th, the public library registration system is currently being implemented in accordance with the revised Library Act. Previously, there were no specific qualification requirements for public libraries, but by December 7, existing public libraries must meet legal standards for the number of librarians, collections, and facilities, and complete registration with the local government and the superintendent of education.
Unregistered libraries will be restricted from applying for national support projects and will be excluded from public library operation evaluations and government awards.
Since its opening in 2018, Asan Central Library has fulfilled its role as the region's central library and has received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award as well as the top library award in the province.
This registration marks the first among 43 public libraries in Chungnam to meet the qualification requirements. The city expects this to serve as a stepping stone to strengthen the competitiveness of public libraries and enhance library service levels for citizens.
Except for the Central Library, other public libraries are facing difficulties in additional registration due to a shortage of librarians as required by law.
A city official stated, "We will do our best to enhance the stability and quality of library services by rapidly assigning newly appointed librarians this year and expanding the number of public libraries eligible for registration as much as possible within the year."
