The World of Drones: Explaining the Magical Principles
Co-authored with Professor Heo Junho of Korea Maritime and Ocean University
A book about drones that goes beyond a simple introduction to technology is drawing attention in the domestic academic community this year.
"The World of Drones: Explaining Its Magical Principles," co-authored by Professor Yoon Changwon from the Department of Computer Engineering at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) and Professor Heo Junho (Korea Maritime and Ocean University), has been selected as an Excellent Academic Book by the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea, in 2024.
Since 2002, the National Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has been selecting excellent academic books to promote and share research and writing activities in the field of basic academic disciplines.
This year, the Academy held the 2nd General Review Committee for Excellent Academic Books, with 104 participants including members and external expert judges, to select outstanding works in academic fields. Out of 2,725 submissions, a total of 294 books (67 in humanities, 114 in social sciences, 39 in Korean studies, 74 in natural sciences) were ultimately chosen as Excellent Academic Books for 2024. The selected books will be distributed to libraries nationwide through the book support program.
"The World of Drones: Explaining Its Magical Principles" is expected to serve as a compass for beginners in research, as it covers the history and principles of drones, technology and market trends, domestic and international research trends, spatial information, digital twin platforms, facility safety inspections, and more, structured from basics to applications and utilization.
Professor Yoon Changwon of Dongseo University explained, "The drone industry, a complex of technologies from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is continuously emphasized and advancing both domestically and internationally. However, apart from existing drone assembly manuals and certification exam books, there is a lack of introductory research books for undergraduate and graduate students in Korea, which motivated me to write this book."
Professor Yoon added, "I believe that anyone will find it easy to read, helping undergraduate and graduate students cultivate basic knowledge in the field and generate ideas."
