Jongno-gu Supports Construction Costs for Improving 'Traditional Toilets'

Up to 80% of construction costs, maximum 15 million KRW support
Applications must be submitted to the local community center by the 30th

Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 13th that it is the only autonomous district in Seoul to promote the "Traditional Toilet Improvement Support Project" and is accepting applications until the end of this month.

This project aims to improve residents' hygiene levels by partially subsidizing the cost of converting traditional toilets into flush toilets.

The support rate is applied based on the median income and official housing price as of 2024. The maximum limit is up to 80% of the total construction cost, capped at 15 million KRW. Eligible applicants are building owners in Jongno-gu currently using traditional toilets. However, unauthorized houses, houses in redevelopment or reconstruction areas, abandoned houses, and individual detached houses with an official housing price exceeding 650 million KRW as of the announcement date are excluded.

Those wishing to participate can visit the local community service center of their building location and submit the application form, estimate, 2024 health insurance payment receipt, property tax certificate, and other required documents by the 30th of this month.

The final project participants will claim subsidies to the Cleaning Administration Division after directly carrying out the improvements. The district office will verify the installation and provide the subsidy. For more details, please refer to the announcement on the district office website or contact the Cleaning Administration Team of the Cleaning Administration Division by phone.

Meanwhile, Jongno-gu is also recruiting participants for the "2024 Second Half Sewage Odor Reduction Device Installation Support Project" until the end of this month. Applications can be made by building owners or managers using legally non-mandatory sewage treatment facilities. If selected, the district will fully support the installation cost of the odor reduction device.

Jongno-gu stated, "Since 2021, we have been promoting the Traditional Toilet Improvement Support Project and have supported a total of 22 million KRW in construction costs," adding, "We will make various efforts to improve poor sanitary conditions and create a pleasant Jongno."
