BMW Reveals Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturer... First Among Imported Cars

On the 12th, BMW disclosed the battery manufacturers of 10 electric vehicle models sold domestically. BMW is the first imported car company in the industry to officially list battery manufacturers on its own website.

Following a surge in consumer inquiries after the electric vehicle fire incident in Incheon, domestic automakers Hyundai Motor and Kia disclosed battery manufacturer information on their websites, prompting imported car company BMW to join the announcement. A separate section was created on the website to allow consumers to directly check the manufacturers.

According to the disclosed battery information, BMW has equipped most electric vehicles such as the i4, i5, iX, and i7 with Samsung SDI batteries. Only the iX1 and iX3 models are equipped with Chinese CATL batteries.

BMW had previously disclosed battery manufacturers through dealer networks and media reports. However, following the Incheon electric vehicle fire incident, the emphasis on consumers' right to know about battery manufacturers led BMW to disclose the information more proactively.

As BMW became the first in the industry to list battery manufacturers on its website, other imported car companies are expected to begin formal discussions with their headquarters regarding the timing and method of disclosure.

The Volkswagen Group, which includes brands such as Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche, is reportedly reviewing battery information disclosure internally, and Volvo is also discussing specific plans.

Polestar has already disclosed related information through press releases and media sites, but whether to disclose it on the general website will be further discussed with its headquarters.
