The confirmation hearing preparation team for Shim Woo-jung, nominee for Prosecutor General (26th Judicial Research and Training Institute class), has been formed mainly with senior officials and staff from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
On the 12th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced, "The confirmation hearing preparation team for the Prosecutor General nominee will be led by Jeon Mu-gon, Director of the Planning and Coordination Department (Chief Prosecutor), and will be composed mainly of personnel from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office."

Director Jeon previously served as Head of the Criminal Planning Division at the Ministry of Justice from 2020 to 2021, and as Head of the Policy Planning Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. In 2022, he was a specialist member of the Presidential Transition Committee.
The overall team leader of the confirmation hearing preparation team is Jang Jun-ho, Head of the Policy Planning Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office; the hearing support team leader is Kim Nam-hoon, Head of the Human Rights Protection Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office; and the policy team leader is Moon Hyun-chul, Human Rights Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. The public relations team leader will be Lee Eung-cheol, spokesperson for the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
The office for the confirmation hearing preparation team has been set up at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office building.
On the afternoon of the same day, Shim, who arrived at the preparation team office in Seocho-dong, Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, for the first time, responded to reporters' questions asking, "There is an evaluation that communication with the Presidential Office is relatively smooth, but there are also concerns about the prosecution's neutrality," by saying, "I believe that public officials should do their best in their respective roles" and added, "I am well aware of how important a role the Prosecutor General plays in the political neutrality of the prosecution, and I will do my best to fulfill that role."
The confirmation hearing for nominee Shim is expected to be held at the end of this month or early next month.
Although the President must appoint the Prosecutor General after the National Assembly's confirmation hearing, since the National Assembly's consent is not required, nominee Shim is expected to succeed Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, who will retire upon the expiration of his term on the 15th of next month, and assume the role of Prosecutor General.
