Nation's First 24/7 Integrated Monitoring and Dispatch System 'Smart Care' Realized
'Golden Time' for Socially Isolated Households... Establishment of Advanced Technology 'Gumi-style Discovery System'
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is building a social safety net using advanced technology to protect households at risk of social isolation and lonely deaths, realizing the vision of "Gumi, a Smart Care Welfare City in Everyday Life."
Recently, Gumi became the first in the nation to unify three previously separate smart care services (AI speakers, smart plugs, and remote well-being monitoring) into an integrated control and dispatch system, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Previously, AI speakers and smart plugs were operated separately through Ministry of Health and Welfare projects and city-led initiatives. However, since April this year, the addition of the remote well-being monitoring service has led to the integration of all three smart care services, along with a dispatch system.
This integrated system has filled management gaps during nights, weekends, and holidays, allowing real-time monitoring of isolated households and immediate dispatch when necessary, playing a significant role in protecting lives and safety.
It has also reduced the workload for local welfare officers, who face staffing limitations, enabling them to focus on identifying welfare blind spots and providing outreach health and welfare services. Through this, the city has been able to strengthen its social safety net with greater precision.
One care service user, Mr. Park, said, "Living alone was difficult, but now I feel reassured because my well-being is checked and I can quickly get the help I need. It feels like someone is looking after me, so my loneliness has greatly decreased," expressing his gratitude.
Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "When we identify socially isolated households anytime, anywhere, and continue to provide diverse policy support through the smart care system, we can prevent lonely deaths. We will lead Gumi City to be a place of warm companionship and happiness for all."
