Public 39%, Industrial Construction 33%,
Reducing Dependence to 28% in Housing
Kolon Global announced on the 12th that it secured new orders worth 2.4 trillion KRW in the construction sector during the first half of this year.
Kolon Global's order amount in the first half of this year increased by more than 1 trillion KRW compared to the first half of last year, and it is also more than 46% higher than the average half-year orders of 1.6 trillion KRW over the past five years. Kolon Global stated, "Despite the housing market downturn, we maintained a favorable trend in new construction orders."
It made significant progress in the public sector. In the first half of this year, it secured 923.5 billion KRW in the public sector, achieving the highest performance exceeding the 10-year average (about 500 billion KRW). Since around 2008, Kolon Global has actively participated in high-difficulty public sector technical bids for about 17 years, accumulating know-how and building trust in its technical capabilities through successful orders and safe project completions. It holds numerous project execution records from clients such as Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Rail Network Authority, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The industrial construction sector also showed remarkable results. Based on customized processes for each company and an optimal partner system, it secured new orders worth 798.6 billion KRW, including projects such as Korean Air's new engine maintenance factory, Merck bio-facility construction, and Jeongeup biomass power plant construction. Kolon Global explained, "We greatly exceeded the initial order target and compensated for the performance gap in the housing sector," adding, "Since the industrial construction sector reflects sales quickly due to fast groundbreaking and short construction periods, it is expected to help improve performance rapidly."
Kolon Global's order portfolio for the first half of this year consisted of 39% public sector and 33% industrial construction. Although the housing sector accounted for about 65% on average over the past five years, its dependency on the housing sector was significantly reduced to around 28% in the first half of this year.
Kolon Global cited technological excellence as a factor for expanding orders. The company collaborates with various technical support departments within the organization, such as the Smart Construction Team, Future Technology Team, and Pre-Con Team. Based on this, it holds a total of over 240 intellectual property rights, including 187 domestic and international patents, green technologies, and designs. Recently, it has also stood out in off-site construction (OSC) methods and 3D modeling-based BIM, minimizing the disadvantages of conventional construction methods.
A Kolon Global representative stated, "Even in difficult environments, we will flexibly respond to housing business risks through the public sector and industrial construction and continue sustainable growth based on 'Stable Biz.'"
