Yongin City to Recruit Participants for the 'National Bok Choy Kimchi Contest' Until the 9th of Next Month

Main Competition on the 28th of Next Month at Yongin Mir Stadium

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 12th that it will recruit participants for the 'National Bok Choy Kimchi Contest' until the 9th of next month.


The Bok Choy Kimchi Contest is part of Gyeonggi Province's 'Make My Own Kimchi' project, jointly hosted by Gyeonggi Province and Yongin City. It is one of the programs in the 'Food Festa' during the 'Yongin Citizens' Day' event held on the 28th and 29th of next month, with the final competition taking place at Yongin Mir Stadium on the 28th.

Anyone aged 20 or older can participate, and after a preliminary screening on the 12th of next month, 8 teams will be selected to advance to the finals.


In the final competition, through on-site demonstrations and judging, a total of 5 teams will be selected: ▲Gold Prize (prize money of 1,000,000 KRW) ▲Silver Prize (prize money of 700,000 KRW) ▲Bronze Prize (prize money of 500,000 KRW) ▲Encouragement Prize (2 teams, each with prize money of 200,000 KRW). A special award chosen by a citizen evaluation panel visiting the event venue will also be presented.


Meanwhile, bok choy is a regional specialty product, with 70% of the nationwide distributed quantity produced in Yongin. A city official expressed hope that "this contest will help promote the excellence of Yongin's specialty products and contribute to expanding consumption."
