SK Telecom announced on the 12th that the 'Team SK' athletes sponsored by the company, including fencing and weightlifting, concluded the Paris Olympics with 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals.

Weightlifter Park Hye-jeong competed in the women's over 81kg category the previous day, lifting a total of 299kg to win a silver medal. This is a new record, surpassing her own Korean record (296kg) by 3kg. Park also won a gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Team SK won gold medals in men's sabre individual (Oh Sang-wook) and team events (Koo Bon-gil, Oh Sang-wook, Park Sang-won, Do Kyung-dong), followed by a historic silver medal in the women's sabre team event (Yoon Ji-soo, Jeon Ha-young, Choi Se-bin, Jeon Eun-hye).

Although fencing ?p?e and foil, swimming (Hwang Sun-woo), and breaking did not win medals, they showed strong performances. The women's handball team was the only domestic ball game team to advance to the Olympic finals.

SKT's 20 Years of Sponsorship for Korean Fencing... Achieving 2 Golds and 1 Silver at the Paris Olympics

At the Paris Olympics, Korean fencing achieved a historic feat by winning the gold medal in the sabre team event, marking their third consecutive Olympic victory. Oh Sang-wook also won the men's sabre individual event, becoming a double gold medalist. The women's sabre team won their first-ever silver medal.

Since becoming the president company of the Korea Fencing Federation in 2003, SKT has supported fencing for over 20 years. The cumulative sponsorship amount has reached 30 billion KRW, focusing on supporting national team athletes' overseas training camps and international competitions. The federation participates in about 50 international competitions annually.

Since 2004, SKT has sponsored the 'SKT International Grand Prix Fencing' tournament held 19 times domestically to expand competitive experience between domestic and world-renowned athletes in Korea.

Choi Se-won, former SK Networks chairman and fencing federation president since 2018, significantly increased support funds after taking office and doubled the prize money for international competitions after the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, strengthening incentives.

Strong Support for Amateur Sports Including Weightlifting and Swimming

In addition to fencing, SKT has sponsored amateur sports such as weightlifting, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, skateboarding, modern pentathlon, high jump, and breaking.

In weightlifting, SKT has sponsored Park Hye-jeong for three years since 2022. Due to the frequent injuries characteristic of weightlifting, treatment costs are a significant burden for athletes. Park said, "Thanks to SKT's sponsorship, I have received great help in injury treatment and rehabilitation training."

Swimmer Hwang Sun-woo also said at the 'Team SK' send-off ceremony held just before the Olympics, "SKT has helped not only me but also youth athletes, contributing to skill development."

Although they did not participate in the Olympics, athletes in various sports such as skateboarding (Jo Hyun-joo), high jump (Choi Jin-woo), modern pentathlon (Shin Soo-min), and rhythmic gymnastics (Son Ji-in) are receiving support from SKT.

Since 2022, SKT has also been operating the 'Sports Dream Tree' program to discover and support middle and high school athletes.

Kim Hee-seop, SKT's Vice President of Communications, said, "SKT will continue to lead the practice of sports ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) through continuous and sincere support for amateur sports."

Meanwhile, the online content prepared by SKT for the Olympics also received much attention. Short-form content featuring training videos of 'Team SK' athletes, special filming videos, athlete interviews, and digital events recorded about 1.5 million views on YouTube and about 3.7 million views on Instagram.
