Geumcheon-gu Hosts Future Science Education Program with National Gwacheon Science Museum
Over 300 Children from 12 Local Childcare Centers Participate, Focusing on AI, Space Science, and Advanced 4th Industrial Revolution Technologies
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it is conducting a future science education program for about 300 elementary and middle school students using local children's centers over 12 sessions from July to September.
The district prepared the event to provide quality educational opportunities so that children can develop curiosity and creativity and grow into future science talents. Participating children can experience various educational programs on artificial intelligence (AI), space science, and advanced technology by utilizing the science and space-specialized exhibition halls and programs of the National Gwacheon Science Museum.
The program is held a total of 12 times: 11 sessions over 6 days from July 30 to August 14 during the vacation period, and 1 session on September 24 after school resumes.
Participating children are divided into morning and afternoon groups, traveling from each local children's center to the National Gwacheon Science Museum to explore the exhibition halls and experience scientific principles.
In the morning vacation group, from 10 a.m., classes titled "The Identity of Unidentified Pathogens" and "Mission! Escape the Electric Maze" provide career exploration education about infectious disease management experts and electronic engineering experts.
After lunch, students in third grade or below watch a themed video titled "To the End of Space" at the planetarium, while students in fourth grade or above visit the Advanced Technology Hall or the Future Imagination SF Hall.
The afternoon vacation group starts at 2 p.m. by watching the themed video "To the Moon" at the planetarium, then moves on to career exploration education using unidentified pathogens and the electric maze.
This education program was made possible through a business agreement signed in May between Geumcheon-gu and the National Gwacheon Science Museum (Director Han Hyeong-ju). The district also plans to conduct a Mars exploration program called "Space Star Story" linked with the Gwacheon Science Museum from August 17 to November.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "Through this future science education, I hope that students in Geumcheon-gu will broaden their understanding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution fields such as space exploration, artificial intelligence, and robotics technology, and nurture their dreams as future scientists or engineers."
