Gachon University’s ‘Love Herbal Medicine Service’ for Low-Income Residents in Jungnang-gu

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) conducted the 'Love Oriental Medicine Volunteer Service' from July 5 to August 9.

The 'Love Oriental Medicine Volunteer Service' is a representative medical volunteer activity for sick and marginalized low-income residents. It has been ongoing for 22 years in cooperation with Gachon University’s ‘Eonjaehoya (焉哉乎也) Volunteer Group’ to improve the health of low-income residents who cannot receive timely medical treatment due to the burden of hospital expenses.

This year, about 200 vulnerable residents, including low-income elderly and disabled people in the district, received Oriental medicine treatment. The beneficiaries were mainly newly selected residents recommended by the local community centers in June to ensure they could receive medical benefits. Treatments such as moxibustion, cupping, and herbal medicine prescriptions were provided, and especially personalized consultations and customized treatments received great responses from the residents.

This Oriental medicine volunteer service took place every Friday for six weeks at the Jungnang-gu Office’s second building, with about 50 volunteers from Gachon University participating. Additionally, general volunteers aged middle school and above were recruited to assist with tasks such as supporting the pharmacy room, adding more meaning to the Oriental medicine volunteer service.

The 'Love Oriental Medicine Volunteer Service' has played a significant role in resolving medical blind spots in the local community and contributing to the health improvement of vulnerable groups, and it will continue to be promoted in the future.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “I thank the Gachon University volunteer group for their service to the health of Jungnang-gu residents,” and added, “We will actively discover programs that cooperate with volunteer groups in various fields to improve the quality of life of Jungnang-gu residents.”
