Attracting Attention with Cost-Effective Membership Amid High Inflation
High Proportion of 2030s... Significant External Inflow
SSG.com announced on the 11th that the number of new subscribers to its grocery-specialized membership, 'Shinsegae Universe SSG Delivery Club' (hereinafter SSG Delivery Club), increased by 30% compared to the previous week from the 1st to the 7th of this month.
SSG.com explained the surge in SSG.com Club subscribers by stating, "Amid ongoing high inflation, it is receiving positive responses as a cost-effective membership." The SSG Delivery Club provides shopping support funds equivalent to the annual fee immediately upon joining. It issues three free delivery coupons each for SSG Delivery and dawn delivery, as well as three 8% shopping cart discount coupons every month, offering free delivery for orders over 14,900 KRW and discounts for purchases over 50,000 KRW.
In particular, the free delivery benefit is said to have played a driving role in expanding subscribers in their 20s and 30s. In fact, the proportion of customers in their 20s and 30s among all SSG Delivery Club members is reported to be 15 percentage points higher than that of the 'Shinsegae Universe Club.' SSG.com stated, "It seems that subscriptions have increased mainly among single- and two-person households who found it burdensome to meet the previous 40,000 KRW free delivery threshold."
It is also known to have had an effect on attracting external customers. SSG.com said, "One out of three members had no purchase history for over a month," and added, "Considering that paid membership subscribers generally have a high proportion of premium members, it is analyzed that there was a reactivation effect on inactive customers."
SSG Delivery allows customers to receive high-quality groceries and daily necessities, including fresh food from E-Mart, all at once, and maintains freshness by ensuring products do not deviate from the appropriate temperature during delivery through a cold chain logistics infrastructure. Additionally, the 'Freshness Guarantee System' allows unconditional exchanges and refunds.
SSG.com plans to reduce the annual fees for both the SSG Delivery Club and the Shinsegae Universe Club from the current 30,000 KRW to 10,000 KRW by the end of the year. New SSG Delivery Club customers will receive 15,000 KRW in shopping support funds, and Shinsegae Universe Club members will be given 10,000 KRW in SSG Money.
