Tokyo Result 8th Place, Climbed 2 Ranks
South Korean sports climbing prospect Seo Chaehyun (21, Seoul City Hall, The North Face) failed to medal, finishing 6th at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On the 10th (Korean time), Seo Chaehyun placed 6th with a total score of 105.0 points in the women's combined (boulder + lead) final at the climbing venue in Le Bourget, Paris, France.
Sports climbing was first included as an official event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Seo Chaehyun reached the final again in Paris following Tokyo.
In this competition, she left some regrets in the earlier bouldering round. Bouldering requires athletes to complete artificial structures installed on a 4.5m high wall within a set time, with a total of four problems given.

Seo Chaehyun was the only one among the eight finalists who failed to top any of the problems, placing last. She then aimed to rebound in her main event, lead (climbing a 15m high wall within 6 minutes), but had to settle for 6th place overall. At the Tokyo Games, Seo Chaehyun ranked 8th overall.
The gold medal on the day went to Janja Garnbret (168.5 points, Slovenia). Second place was Brooke Raboutou (156.0 points, USA), and third place went to Jessica Pilz (147.4 points, Austria).
