"Jumped 2m... Thought I Might Die"
Sutured Two Stitches and Received Rabies and Tetanus Shots
A man in his 60s walking his pet dog was attacked by two stray dogs at an apartment complex in Busan.
According to the Busan Fire Headquarters on the 10th, a man in his 60s, Mr. A, was attacked by two stray dogs while walking his pet dog at an apartment complex in Allak-dong, Dongnae-gu, Busan, on the afternoon of the 6th.
Mr. A, startled upon seeing the stray dogs, quickly tried to escape while holding his pet dog, but the stray dogs lunged at him, biting his arms and legs.
The stray dogs jumped up to attack Mr. A as he tried to enter the apartment building and even followed him inside. Mr. A was only able to drive them away after repeatedly kicking them while waiting for the elevator.
As a result of the incident, Mr. A sustained wounds that required two stitches on his arm and received rabies and tetanus vaccinations.
He said, "One of them jumped about 2 meters, bit me hard, and shook its head. Meanwhile, another bit my leg. I thought I might die."
The stray dogs involved were captured by fire authorities about an hour and 30 minutes after the incident and handed over to the district office. They have since been moved to an animal shelter.
Meanwhile, concerns are growing as incidents of stray dogs attacking citizens continue. In January of this year in Busan, a man in his 20s was injured while walking and required 50 stitches on his face due to a stray dog attack.
Stray dogs are difficult to catch as they avoid capture traps, and under the current Animal Protection Act, euthanasia is not permitted. Although there are calls in the political sphere to designate stray dogs as harmful wildlife (animals that cause damage to human life, livestock, or agriculture), progress has stalled due to opposition from civic groups.
