The event was attended by Lee Kyungdeok, Director of Planning for the city, the Director of the Population and Housing Census Division at Statistics Korea, the Director of the Social Survey Division at the Southeast Regional Statistics Office, and the heads of planning and audit departments from each district and county.
This event was organized to mark the official start of the '2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey' and to announce the full-scale commencement of the census.
The city explained its comprehensive implementation plan, which includes the operation of a situation room, mobilization of personnel, and the use of an electronic survey (CAPI) system based on digital maps. The city also requested interest and cooperation from relevant departments and district and county offices.
The '2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey' is a large-scale census conducted every five years, led by Statistics Korea and simultaneously carried out by each city and province. It aims to collect basic information on residences and households nationwide to accurately define census districts and improve the quality of housing statistics for the '2025 Population and Housing Census'.
In particular, this year's survey will include a complete count of rooftop and semi-basement units to minimize housing blind spots and use the data to develop housing support policies.
Additionally, by utilizing administrative data and spatial information, the number of on-site survey targets will be reduced, thereby lessening the response burden on the public.
For example, for apartment buildings between 5 and 30 years old, survey items will be verified using administrative data and spatial information without the need for on-site surveys.
To conduct this year's Household and Housing Basic Survey, the city has established a survey headquarters, and each district and county will operate a situation room. The headquarters (situation room) will handle tasks such as mobilizing and training personnel, promoting the survey, and managing survey materials. After the main survey begins, it will monitor progress and provide guidance and supervision to promptly address any issues that may arise during the survey process.
Lee Kyungdeok, Director of Planning for the city, stated, "The '2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey' marks the first step toward the successful implementation of the '2025 Population and Housing Census', which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the census. We ask for the active interest and cooperation of citizens to ensure the successful completion of this survey."
The '2024 Household and Housing Basic Survey' is scheduled to be conducted from November 8 to 27, targeting all residences (including vacant homes) and households (approximately 1,098,000 households), except for certain apartments.
