Diving national representative Shin Jeong-hwi (22, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) advanced to the semifinals in his first Olympic appearance.
On the 9th, Shin Jeong-hwi scored a total of 369.20 points from rounds 1 to 6 in the men's 10m platform diving preliminaries at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Aquatic Center in Paris, France, ranking 17th out of 26 competitors.
On that day, Shin Jeong-hwi was in 20th place until the 4th round, but scored 64.35 points in the 5th round for the performance starting with a handstand move followed by three rotations (626C), and 67.20 points in the 6th round for the 5253B performance incorporating a twist move, advancing to the semifinals in 17th place.
The top 18 will compete in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Korean time on the 10th.
Shin Jeong-hwi was the last of the six Korean diving athletes participating in the Paris Olympics to secure his spot in the competition. The opportunity arose after a competitor from another country gave up their qualification spot.
Kim Young-taek (22, Jeju Provincial Office), who competed in the same event, scored a total of 320.40 points and ranked 24th, failing to advance past the preliminaries.
