S-Oil Converts Disposable Plastic Gloves at Self-Service Gas Stations to Reusable Gloves

Installation of Dedicated Collection Box at Yeomni-dong Gas Station in Seoul

S-Oil announced on the 9th that it has launched the 'GoodLOVES (Good + Gloves)' campaign to collect disposable plastic gloves, which are briefly used and discarded at self-service gas stations, and create reusable fueling gloves. 'GoodLOVES' is a combination of 'Good' and 'Loves,' meaning love for the Earth, and 'Gloves.'

The purpose of this campaign is to reduce the use of disposable products. To address the issue of disposable plastic gloves being thoughtlessly discarded at self-service gas stations, S-Oil has pilot-installed dedicated collection bins for gloves at the Yeomni-dong gas station in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

The collected plastic gloves are reprocessed using heat compression technology to be reborn as lightweight and durable reusable fueling gloves. The pouches that store these gloves are also made by recycling discarded banners previously used at gas stations.

According to Greenpeace data, 23.5 billion disposable plastic gloves are used annually in Korea. This amounts to about 460 gloves per person, one of the highest levels in the world.

S-Oil plans to release a video explaining the goals and process of this campaign on YouTube and Instagram on the 13th. By leaving comments on YouTube and Instagram until the 31st, participants can enter an event to receive S-Oil’s recycled fueling gloves.

An S-Oil representative said, "We hope the GoodLOVES campaign will help reduce the use of disposable products and encourage more people to participate in campaigns that care for the Earth and the environment."
