The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 11th that it will conduct an intensive crackdown on organized crime and international crime in the second half of the year until October 31.
The police carried out a special crackdown on organized crime from March 18 to July 17 in the first half of the year. As a result, a total of 1,723 people were arrested, and 281 were detained. They secured pre-indictment seizure and confiscation of 8.05 billion KRW and actively cracked down on acts of joining and participating in violent organizations to suppress the expansion of their influence. During the intensive crackdown period in the second half, they plan to conduct a strong crackdown on crimes involving organized crime groups' interference in civilian life and money laundering crimes.
From April to June, the police arrested 755 people through an intensive crackdown on international crime in the first half of the year, of whom 127 were detained. Through pre-indictment seizure and confiscation applications, they froze criminal proceeds worth approximately 1.78 billion KRW. In the second half, they plan to focus on three main areas: major violent crimes committed by foreign residents, economic crimes infringing on civilian life, and drug-related crimes, and respond strongly.
A police official stated, "We plan to respond proactively by continuously strengthening crackdowns and intelligence gathering related to organized crime and crimes involving foreigners," adding, "We provide rewards for crime reports and thoroughly guarantee the identity of informants, so we ask for active cooperation."
