Gijang County in Busan: KTX-Eum Stop at Gijang Is Not a Choice but a Necessity... Residents Speak with One Voice

About 150 People Including Gijang-eup Village Leaders Chant Slogans

Mayor Jeong Jongbok Says, "Will Do My Best to Attract Train Stop"

Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced that on the 9th, residents of Gijang-eup gathered in the first-floor lobby of the county office to raise their voices in support of attracting a KTX-Eum stop in Gijang-gun.

The event was attended by about 150 people, including various organizations and the Gijang-eup Village Leaders' Association, who chanted slogans urging for a KTX-Eum stop in Gijang-gun and showed their unified support for the initiative.

One resident who participated in the event said, "It is extremely inconvenient to use Busan Station, which is located far away, when traveling to the metropolitan area," and added, "I joined this event because I felt it was necessary to directly appeal to Korail and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport about the passion and sincerity of the residents."

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, emphasized, "Gijang-gun is geographically located between Ulsan and Busan, making it easy to secure the distance between stops. As of 2023, the number of Donghae Line users surpasses that of competing stations, and there has been a rapid influx of population due to the development of industrial complexes and new towns. Considering these factors, there is ample justification for attracting a KTX-Eum stop." He added, "I will devote all my efforts until the day a KTX-Eum stop is confirmed for Gijang-gun."

Gijang-gun is actively engaging all residents in efforts to attract a KTX-Eum stop. In 2022, a feasibility study for the KTX-Eum stop was already completed, and in 2023, a petition with 141,000 signatures from residents was directly submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
